Tuesday, Dec. 07, 2004: Birds, houses, Christmas ....

The plum trees are heavy with fruit and this has brought some rather exotic looking parrots into our backyard.

If it seems that all I do at the moment is talk about the birds in my garden it's because they give me so much pleasure, but it's certainly not all that's going on for me at the moment.

Ric and I did our Christmas shopping on the weekend and sent our Christmas cards, so we feel pretty organised right now. Last year we shopped on Christmas Eve!! We also have a bit of a "gag" gift to arrange for each of the family members, the idea growing out of a chance comment. One of Ric's brothers has a catchphrase which I mentioned we should have printed onto a t-shirt for him; Ric took this idea and blew it up, in his characteristic way, to us working out typical sayings for each of his family members and sourcing the correctly sized t-shirts. It's just a bit of a joke, but we had to make sure that nothing that we print will embarrass or offend and so it's been a bit of a trial to work it all out. Having said that, we think we've done alright . . . I'll try to get some photos on Christmas day.

The family get-together at Christmas may seem a bit bizarre this year; Ric's sister and brother-in-law, J & D have asked to host it this year as for many years previously they have been tied to their former business. So we will make our way to the same place that Christmas dinner was held last year - Aldinga Beach - the same house except this year with others living in it. Actually, the couple of times we have visited I have found that it no longer feels like ours although technically it still is until J & D move on to their newly-built house (approximately February) and the Aldinga Beach house is sold.

It's been advertised for sale for two weeks now and the agent has had a number of enquiries but no firm offers and so we will wait and see what happens. The agent is quite confident that it will sell reasonably quickly, the summer holiday season at Aldinga will begin soon and we are in no real rush as we want to keep J & D housed until February. All seems to be working out so far; we will wait and see what happens.
